When a patient walks into your dental practice, what is their first impression of you? We recommend always putting yourself into your patient's shoes and trying to see things from their perspective.
Whether performing high-dollar procedures, or working with patients who may even have a dental phobia, it is always important that your office is inviting, encourages them to relax, and helps them to understand your brand.
Here are a few common elements you need to consider in your reception area!
The color and mood of your practice is typically the least expensive way to update your office. Adding fresh, new colors can lighten or brighten your space. Using trendy murals and wallpapers will change the whole look of your brand, and who it speaks to. For example, if you are a pediatric practice, you can use fun bright colors, animal themes, cartoons, etc.
Another simple cost-effective way to elevate your patient experience is to have a beverage station. You can have a mini-fridge with small water bottles, offer single-serve coffee pods, assorted flavored teas, or a beverage dispenser with water and some lemons, cucumbers, and oranges in it. Dental phobic patients can get triggered easily by smells and sounds. You may want to consider playing soothing music to relax the patients, having air diffusers with aromatherapy, and maybe even small water features or calming lights to make the reception area more inviting.

Be sure that your front office team keeps the area clean and organized, and that your patients are greeted with an easy check-in process. Consider having tablets or another form of an electronic check-in process, so that your patients can fill out forms digitally to maintain cleanliness and without pressure.
Have the backsplash showcase your logo, and ensure your team members are dressed to impress. If everyone wears scrubs within the practice, make sure they have your logos embroidered on them. Branding is quite important to show your patients that you value your company and office space. Everything from pens, notepads, etc can easily have your branding on everything.
Finally, take a look at your furniture and make sure it is comfortable and modern. Your office should feel like an extension of your team, and this is another great chance to show your patients what your brand should mean to them. Add smart digital picture frames where you can showcase some of your before and after photos, fun pictures of your team, CE courses you attended, etc.
On your TVs/monitors, you may have patient stories, doctor blogs, photography, and cultural videos showcased on a loop so that patients get to learn more about your culture. Highlighting patient experiences, clinical outcomes, and the amazing differentiating factors your practice offers can bring about feelings of confidence about working with you. Your current patients will get excited seeing patient transformations; not just their new smiles but the transformation in their quality of life. We also suggest setting out updated dental magazines and branding packages on the coffee tables to educate patients about the different treatment options you offer.
